A Letter from North Avenue re: School Funding I want to share this note that City School employees received from Dr. Santelises, regarding the Kirwan Commission recommendation delay. This is important to share as parent voices will be important in funding meetings statewide. - Principal Long From: CitySchoolsCEO Sent: Wednesday, January 16, 2019 11:59 AM Subject: An important message from Dr. Santelises Dear Colleagues, About a month ago, we learned that the work of the Kirwan Commission to recommend a new state education funding formula was being delayed for another year. This means another year of waiting for a solution to the long-term underfunding of our schools—after too many years of waiting already. The work of the Kirwan Commission is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for meaningful change. That’s why today we are releasing our vision of a world-class education system for our city. Investing in Our Future outlines specifically and comprehensively what our students need and deserve. It was prepared with input from district stakeholders and informed by deep understanding of our students and the communities we serve. I encourage you to read both the document and the attached letter I sent to Chair Kirwan this morning, and use them to advocate aggressively on behalf of our young people. Our voices must be heard, because too much is at stake to risk any further delay. Thank you for your support, and for everything you do. Sincerely, Sonja Brookins Santelises, Ed.D.
